Oil production in oil-sharing regime was almost four times higher in 2022 than in the previous year

Federal government’s share totaled 9.8 million barrels

Oil production in production sharing contracts in 2022 was almost four times higher than that recorded in the previous year. According to information from Pré-Sal Petróleo (PPSA), 233 million barrels of oil were produced by seven contracts, in comparison with 62 million barrels in 2021.  9.8 million barrels of that total amount were destined to the Federal government. Production under this regime started at the end of 2017 in the Mero Development Field back then, and has since maintained an accelerated growth pace. Peak production is expected to occur in 2030, according to a PPSA study.

The Búzios and Mero fields were the main producers in 2022, with 152 million and 34 million barrels of oil, respectively. Together, they accounted for 80% of total production. When the Federal government’s share was analyzed, these two fields were also the ones that contributed the most, accounting for 74% of production.

The production of natural gas also had an expressive result in 2022. 602 million cubic meters (m³) were made available for sale, more than triple of the 187 million m³ made available in 2021. The Búzios field was the main producer, accounting for more than half of the production (528 million m³). The Federal government had 48 million m³. Over 80% of the Union’s natural gas comes from the Entorno de Sapinhoá contract.

All data are part of the Monthly Production Bulletin prepared by PPSA and was released this Thursday, the 23rd. The Federal government’s natural oil volumes are marketed by PPSA as the cargo becomes available. In 2022, BRL 4.71 billion were raised for the National Treasury.

Production of December 2022

In December, the average daily production of the seven contracts was 761 thousand barrels, a result 4% lower than during the previous period. The three largest producers were the fields of Búzios (49% of the total, with 376 thousand bpd), Mero (187 thousand bpd) and Sépia (104 thousand bpd). The highlight of the month was the start of production, on the 21st, at the Itapu field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, 200 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, with the platform vessel P-71. The average production was 8 thousand barrels per day.

The daily average of Federal government oil reached a record value of 41.79 thousand barrels. The highlights were the fields of Mero (28.41 thousand bpd), Búzios (5.31 thousand bpd) and Entorno de Sapinhoá (4.34 thousand bpd).

The production of natural gas for commercial use averaged 1.9 million m³/day, with 1.7 million m³/day coming from Búzios, 154 thousand m³/day from Entorno de Sapinhoá, and 25 thousand m³/day from Sudoeste de Tartaruga Verde. The result is 12% higher than the one registered in November 2021, due to the improvement in operational performance in the Búzios fields.

In the same month, the Federal government was entitled to an average production of 127 thousand m³/day, most of which came from Entorno de Sapinhoá (101 thousand m³/day), followed by Búzios (25 thousand m³/day) and Sudoeste de Tartaruga Verde (300 m³ /day). The average shows an increase of 34% in comparison to the previous period.

Union is entitled, in May, to 26,000 barrels of oil per day

This month marks the beginning of the production sharing contracts for Sépia and Atapu and the start-up of the FPSO Guanabara, in Mero

In May, the Union was entitled to 26,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) related to production sharing contracts in the Pre-Salt Polygon. The month marks the start of contracts for the Sépia and Atapu fields, which contributed 2,000 and 1,400 bpd, respectively. The total volume of the so-called União Profit Oil also has 10.6 thousand bpd referring to Libra; 5.9 thousand to Búzios, 5.6 thousand to Entorno de Sapinhoá; and 0.4 thousand to Tartaruga Verde Sudoeste. The information was released by Pré-Sal Petróleo (PPSA), this Thursday (14), in its Monthly Bulletin of Production Sharing Contracts.

Also according to the state-owned company, the Daily Production of Oil, added to the shares of consortia and the Union, had a daily average of 672,000 bpd. Of these, 419 thousand bpd are from Búzios, 97 thousand bpd from Sepia, 76 thousand bpd from Atapu, 69 thousand bpd from Libra, 7 thousand bpd from Sapinhoá surroundings and 4 thousand bpd from Tartaruga Verde Sudoeste. Production increased 38% compared to April, due to the entry into operation of the FPSO Guanabara and the start-up, under a production sharing regime, of Sépia and Atapu.

Since the beginning of the historical series of the production sharing regime, in 2017, the accumulated production of oil is 188 million barrels. Of the total, the Union was entitled to 15 million barrels of oil in the period.

In February, União was entitled to 17,000 barrels of oil per day, says PPSA

In February this year, the Union was entitled to 17,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) in production, sharing contracts (CPPs) in the Pre-Salt Polygon. The brand is the same as in January, which, at the time, was the largest ever recorded in the historical series, which has existed since 2017. The information is contained in the Monthly Bulletin of Production Sharing Contracts, released this Tuesday (19) by Pre-Salt Oil (PPSA).

Of the 17,000 barrels a day that make up the Union's oil profit in February, 7,400 bpd came from the Libra CPP, in the Mero Development Area; 5.7 thousand bpd from the Búzios CPP; and 4.1 thousand bpd from the CPP in the surroundings of Sapinhoá. At the Tartaruga Verde Sudoeste CPP, the Union's surplus oil continues to be used to settle the "Accounts Settlement" with the operator, through the redetermination of the Production Individualization Agreement (AIP).

The average total production under the sharing regime in February was 466 thousand bpd. Búzios had the highest production, with 406 thousand bpd, followed by the Mero Development Area, with 48 thousand bpd. Surroundings of Sapinhoá and Tartaruga Verde Sudoeste completed the daily production, with 7 thousand and 5 thousand bpd, respectively.

Since the beginning of the historical series, the accumulated share of oil for the Union is 13 million barrels. The total production, in the same period, adds up to 138 million barrels of oil.

Natural gas

In addition to oil, the Union also had a surplus of natural gas. On average, 113 thousand m³/day were produced, with 103 thousand m³/day referring to the Sapinhoá surroundings and 10 thousand m³/day to Búzios. In Tartaruga Verde Sudoeste, the Union's surplus gas continues to be used to settle the "Accounts Settlement" with the operator, through the redetermination of the AIP. Mero, so far, has no forecast of commercialization of natural gas.

The total average daily production of the three contracts, in February, with commercial use, was 945 thousand m³/day, with 739 thousand m³/day coming from Búzios; 172 m³/day around Sapinhoá; and 34 thousand m³/day of Tartaruga Verde Sudoeste. Compared to January of this year, the volume of available gas increased by 12% due to the normalization of operations in Búzios, after the unavailability of the Dehydration Unit on the P-74.

Since 2017, the beginning of the historical series, the Union's natural gas surplus is 109 million cubic meters. The accumulated production, in the same period, totals 441 million cubic meters of natural gas with commercial use.
